Martin Boyle and Jackson Irvine combined for another Australia goal in their 3-0 World Cup qualifying win over Nepal.
The Hibs duo formed an effective understanding after Irvine arrived in January and they’ve taken that onto the international stage as well.
Irvine spared Boyle ’s blushes last week when he netted the rebound from Boyle’s missed penalty in a 3-0 victory over Kuwait.
Both were rested for the 5-1 win over Chinese Taipei last weekend, but returned to Graham Arnold’s team to face Nepal.
And it was an inch perfect pass from Irvine that enabled Boyle to tap home the Socceroos’ final goal.
Matthew Leckie and Fran Karacic had the hosts 2-0 up before Boyle added some gloss to the scoreline, and the boys in green and gold are through to the next stage of the qualifying process with seven wins out of seven.
Boyle shared his delight with an instagram post afterwards, saying: “It’s always an honour to pull on the jersey and grab a goal. Three games down, one to go for the boys!”
Whether he and Irvine will be linking up with Hibs again in the Scottish Premiership next season remains to be seen.
Irvine only penned a short-term deal until the end of the season and while talks with Jack Ross over extending his stay in leith have been ongoing, no agreement has yet been reached.
