Martin Allen's cheeky dig on 'mighty Marcelo Bielsa' and Leeds United's promotion bid

Outspoken manager turned pundit Martin Allen has taken a cheeky dig at the ‘mighty Marcelo Bielsa’ when discussing Leeds United’s promotion ambitions.

Allen, 54, a former Leicester City and Barnet boss, is one of the go-to mouthpieces for Football League opinion - rightly or wrongly.

Appearing on TalkSport, Allen gave backing to one of his other former sides Brentford in their battle with Leeds United to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Bielsa’s Whites currently sit 2nd in the Championship five points ahead of the Bees who are in fifth. And, Allen was far from impartial when discussing the two side’s ambitions.

Allen, highlighting Leeds United recent indifferent form, said: “Wouldn’t it be amazing? (if Brentford are promoted) I’d love it as well when you look at Leeds. They have this fantastic world-renowned manager and when it comes to the tough times they have a slippery slope.

“Nobody even talks about him - do they? Bielsa? Why has it all gone so quiet around Bielsa? They keep losing every week and little Brentford overtake them to the Premier League - wouldn’t that be a wonderful story.”

We imagine, few Whites supporters reading this article would agree with Allen’s ‘wonderful story’.

Interestingly, Leeds United travel to Griffin Park for a Championship encounter with Brentford next month. So, we’ll see if Allen will be talking about Bielsa after that match.
