Martha Stewart's ancient glassware taps into a color trend that's shaping modern kitchens in 2024

When brainstorming ways to add color to a space, look beyond paint, and turn to glass- and dishware for inspiration. That's the message we're getting from Martha Stewart's latest Instagram post, at least. The queen of all things interiors shared her collection of Jadeite glasses and dishes, and we are green with delight at the variety of pieces.

'Before there was Tupperware or Pyrex, there was jadeite a stain- and heat-resistant, milky-green glassware,' Stewart states in the caption. 'Many of these pieces originated from Martha's daughter, Alexis, who started the impressive collection during a cross-country road trip 20 years ago. Over the years, parts of her collection have found their way to Martha’s Skylands home in Maine, and onto the sets of Martha’s shows, where viewers have fallen in love with them.'

An ancient mineral, Jadeite originates primarily from Myanamar and has maintained popularity for centuries, making it a timeless and versatile material to implement into the home (and a solution when considering kitchen ideas). In fact, jade leans into one of 2024's biggest interior design trends: luxury color combinations.

'Tonal shades of green offer a great foundation for a luxurious scheme,' says designer Matthew Williamson. 'Picture rich emeralds, lush moss greens, and hints of jade intermingling seamlessly.'

The jadeite kitchen pieces would look marvelous alongside dark green cookware or pale green tiles as backsplash. The possibilities are endless.

Williamson recommends accompanying glamorous greens with equally luxe colors and accents; think metallics or any shades that are fit for royalty.

'To elevate this palette, I'd introduce complementary hues such as sumptuous golds and pops of mustard. Imagine accents of shimmering gold metallics or warm mustard yellow creating a harmonious and lavish ambiance,' Williamson says. 'This combination evokes a sense of grandeur and elegance, perfect for creating a truly luxurious space.'

In a kitchen space, this could mean gold faucets, brassy cabinet hardware, or mustard dish towels depending on the style of our space.

Stewart's own collection includes serving plates, cereal bowls, and even cake stands – try one item as a statement piece or curate an assortment as a matching set. Regardless, Jadeite is bound to add refined vibrancy to the kitchen.
