Marshon Lattimore hosting ‘A Day Against Violence’ in Cleveland

Many New Orleans Saints players are invested in giving back to their communities, using the platform and opportunity they receive as professional athletes to support their hometowns. That includes Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who is hosting a big party for Cleveland youths on June 29.

“This is for young boys and girls to have freedom from the violence and just have fun and be kids,” Lattimore wrote on his official Twitter account. “Bring your sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, cousins etc. I’m excited to see all of y’all show up and have fun with me. It’s all love and positivity at this event. Thank you!”

Lattimore went to Glenville High School in Cleveland, where he was coached by Ted Ginn Sr., father to teammate Ted Ginn Jr. Lattimore is all too aware of the troubles facing his community — just two years ago, a shooting reportedly occurred near the football field while Ginn Sr. was conducting practice, and where Lattimore plans to host his field day.

So now the Saints cornerstone is hoping to bring kids and their parents together for a day of summer fun. Lattimore has been promoting his event, which will include food vendors, live entertainment and carnival games, on social media. He’ll also have barbers available to give free haircuts and a video game truck. Children age 12 or under must be chaperoned by a parent.

It’s great to see someone who makes up a big piece of the Saints’ young core doing his part to help others. It speaks to the character of the players inside the Saints locker room as well as their priorities off the field.
