Marshawn Lynch teases possible return to Seahawks in 2020 season

Marshawn Lynch still may not be done with the NFL, and the free-agent running back told ESPN on Monday night that his agent “has been in talks” with the Seattle Seahawks about a possible return to the field for the 2020 season. But it doesn’t seem like he’s too concerned about how it could turn out either way.

Lynch, who turned 34 last month, has already come out of retirement twice, most recently for the Seahawks in the 2019 season. He signed a contract for the end of last season only and returned to the field for Seattle’s regular-season finale loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17.

And he might be back yet again.

While on SportsCenter, Scott Van Pelt asked Lynch about his future plans and what he’d like to see happen. Lynch explained:

“Well, it’s almost on that ‘expect the unexpected.’ But just as far as right now, what I do know is, I’ma keep it solid. My agent has been in talks with Seattle, so like I said, we’ll see what happens. If it works out and I get back up there, it is what it is. And if not, [expletive], I’m lookin’ good. So I ain’t really trippin’ too much.”

When Lynch took the field last season at the end of 2019 — he was helping out Seattle’s injured backfield — he hadn’t played football since October of 2018. In the one regular-season and two playoff games for the Seahawks, he had 30 carries for 67 yards and four touchdowns.

Should Lynch be able to return to the NFL, he’d be expected to have at least a $1.05 million base salary, per ESPN.
