What’s Going To Happen
It’s about as much of a scrimmage as it gets for a Marshall team that needs to get ready for a trip to Boise State.
The Thundering Herd have the parts in place to start the season by doing whatever it wants against a VMI team that’s experienced, but doesn’t have the lines to hold up.
The Keydets went 1-10 last season with an offense the couldn’t run well enough and did nothing defensively, and now they have to face a Marshall offensive line that might be the best in Conference USA, and a defense that allowed 20 points or fewer seven times last year.
Expect the Herd backups to get in early on in the second half after the offense goes to town in the first.
MU’s defense needs to get a host of new starters some live action to get ready for the rest of the season – expect at least five sacks against the Keydet Air Raid attack – but it’s the offensive side that has to be a whole lot sharper. That won’t be an issue even with eight starters returning on the VMI defense.
The Keydets will come up with yards, but they won’t do enough to close out drives.
