Marshall Newhouse rips how NFL prospects’ Wonderlic scores are used on Twitter

The run up to the NFL draft can be an exhausting process for anyone who covers a team. Just imagine what it’s like for prospects who have been waiting for their entire lives for the opportunity. Certain elements of the pre-draft process must be particularly frustrating: including damning quotes from anonymous scouts and the the leaking of Wonderlic scores.

Former Panthers offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse took to Twitter on Monday evening and ripped the way the those results are leaked to cast doubt on an incoming player’s intelligence. Newhouse called the test deeply flawed, outdated and the worst tradition in football.

Newhouse wasn’t done there. He also took aim at IQ tests, which he called fraudulent and racially tainted.

Newhouse is not the first person to bring this up. Cultural bias has long been a point of contention over these tests and there have been studies on the subject.

Newhouse was a fifth-round pick by the Packers in the 2010 NFL draft. Since then, he’s played in 114 career games. He came to the Panthers in a trade with the Bills in September, but he’s a free agent now. If Carolina brings him back, it would be in a swing tackle role.
