Marseille president provides update on Andoni Zubizarreta's future following Arsenal links

Meseille president Jacques-Henri Eyraud has confirmed that the club's sporting director Abdoni Zubizarreta will be staying with the French club after reports linking him to Arsenal surfaced.

As reported by football.london, Arsenal are said to have a long standing interest in the Spaniard who previously worked with the club's head of football Raul Sanllehi while they were both at Barcelona.

Zibizarreta has been at Marseille for just over two years, and has helped the club sign a number of marquee names including bringing former West Ham man Dimitri Payet back to the club.

But in a press conference on Wednesday, the French club's president revealed that Zubizarreta will not be moving to the Emirates Stadium, and will be staying at Marseille.

"Andoni Zubizarreta continues his adventure at OM (Olympic Marseille)," was the brief statement made by the president via the club's twitter account.

This means that Arsenal will have to turn to other targets in order to fill the director of football role at the club.

Former winger Edu has previously been an option for the role, and was considered under previous manager Arsene Wenger. The Gunners may have to wait until after Brazil's Copa America campaign if they wish to appoint their former player, who is currently the general coordinator for the national team.
