Mars turns iconic chocolate bar into jarred spread - and it will be available tomorrow

Mars will turn its iconic chocolate bar into a tasty spread - and it will hit the supermarket shelves as early as tomorrow.

The new Mars Bar spread will come in jars containing swirls of chocolate, caramel and nougat.

Scots will be able to use the 200g spread on a number of breakfast items such toast, pancakes or in their morning porridge.

Or you can even eat the sweet treat with a spoon if you’re feeling up to it.

It is hoped that Mars will compete against fellow chocolate giants Cadbury, M&Ms and Maltesers, who have all made similar moves in recent times.

And some people have already suggested that it could be stiff competition for chocolate spread big hitters Nutella.

A spokesperson for Mars said: “Mars’ lovers rejoice, as for the first time ever, you can now experience the distinctive taste of a Mars bar as a spread.

“Stir the new Mars spread into your daily oats, top your toast or pancake, add to your favourite bake, transform your barbecued bananas or dip in some strawberries. The possibilities are endless.”

Those seeking to get their hands on this sweet product will be able to pick it up from Aldi supermarket shelves for £2 from tomorrow.

The Mars bar in a jar could be seen as a bid to update its 89-year-old image from the nation’s trusted snack staple to appeal to a younger market which has already seen Lotus Biscoff spread take off thanks to social media site TikTok with variations on how to use it just short of 322 million views.

And arch rival Cadbury is constantly evolving its Dairy Milk bar to keep up with trends from updating its wrapper and cutting sugar to giving bars a more rounded shape.

It is also planning to launch a Winter Orange flavour embedded with orange pieces to tap into the trend for citrus flavours in chocolate.
