Mars lander Schiaparelli may have exploded on impact, European Space Agency says

Experimental Mars lander Schiaparelli has crash-landed and may have exploded, the European Space Agency (Esa) has said.

Images sent from Nasa's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter showed an ominous black spot where the probe was supposed to land.

Esa said it estimated that impact could have happened at a speed greater than 300 km/h and possibly exploded on impact.
