Mars is launching three flavours of vegan Galaxy bars next week

Mars is set to launch three vegan alternatives to its best-selling Galaxy bar next week.

Certified by the Vegan Society, the chocolate will be available in three flavours, including smooth orange, caramel and sea salt and caramelised hazelnut.

It's set to go on sale online and in store at Tesco, Ocado and Amazon from November 18.

Mars said it spent more than six months reformulating the best-selling chocolate bar, which has involved replacing dairy with hazelnut paste and rice syrup.

Head of the sensory team at Mars, Linda Lopez, said: "The taste of Galaxy has not changed in the nearly 60 years since it was launched.

The revamped confectionery product will also be environmentally friendly, and wrapped in compostable film packaging made from wood fibre.

But the changes haven't come without a cost.

Those eager to have a taste will need to fork out £3 for a 100g bar, roughly double the price of a traditional Galaxy.

"We wanted to retain the classic smooth and creamy taste and texture without any compromise."
