‘Marry me’ prank at Glasgow restaurant leaves first date couple red-faced

A Glasgow couple on their first date were left mortified after being pranked with a marriage proposal dessert.

Stephen Durand was on a romantic date at Finsbay Flatiron on Woodlands Road when he was interrupted by the bombshell proposal.

The 38-year-old had no idea his friend Lee McIver, from Clydebank, had set him up.

The 24-year-old phoned the restaurant and asked staff to bring out the dessert and prosecco for the moment he popped the question.

Lee told the Daily Record : "I phoned pretending to be my friend and asked for a dessert to be brought out saying 'will you marry me?' and a bottle of prosecco as I'd have the ring in my pocket."

"In the video, filmed by a server, the woman insists they have been given the wrong order and says: "This is not ours, 100% it is not us."

Stephen then realises something is up when he asks staff: "Did someone phone you about this?"

He only realised his friends were behind the prank when he walked out the restaurant and saw them laughing and congratulating him on his engagement.

Lee shared the hilarious prank on Twitter and wrote: "Mate was on a first date tonight and we’ve done him an absolute belter".

The post has been liked more than 50,000 times.

Sadly, Stephen is back on the hunt for love after being dumped following the prank.
