Marriott Hotels will offer Netflix in U.S. guest bedrooms

June 10--Guests staying in certain Marriott Hotels in the United States will now be able to access Netflix on their room televisions.

The partnership with the Los Gatos streaming video service, announced Wednesday, makes Marriott Hotels the first hotel brand to give guests direct access to their Netflix accounts as part of in-room entertainment, according to Marriott International Inc., which owns Marriott Hotels.

The streaming video service is offered at six locations -- New York Marriott East Side, San Jose Marriott, Princeton Marriott, Newport Marriott in Rhode Island, Bethesda Marriott Suites and Dallas/Fort Worth Marriott Solana -- with six more locations slated for the summer.

Bethesda-based Marriott International Inc. said it plans to expand Netflix access to 100 of its properties by the end of 2015 and to all of its more than 300 U.S. locations by the end of 2016.

"Our collaboration with Netflix responds to changing consumer preferences in the way our guests access and watch content, while recognizing the leading role Netflix is playing in driving this transformation," Matthew Carroll, vice president of brand management for Marriott Hotels, said in a statement.

Guests staying multiple days will have to log in only once to their Netflix accounts, the company said in a statement. Account information also will be automatically wiped from televisions when guests check out.
