Married teacher, 35, guilty of having sex with 15-year-old pupil in a field

A teacher has been found guilty of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Kandice Barber, 35, of Wendover, Buckinghamshire, was tried for a second time over allegations she had sex with a pupil in a field while she was working as a school cover supervisor.

A jury at Amersham Law Courts found Barber guilty of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and not guilty of two further counts of the same offences.

The teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, previously said he was "worried and scared" when rumours of their alleged relationship spread around his school.

A court previously heard that Barber had told the boy she would "bring him down with her" if the relationship was discovered.

The unidentified schoolboy claimed encounters include the married mum performing oral sex in a wooded area.

The 35-year-old, who has school-age children of her own, denied that the encounters ever took place.

In cross examination, the boy could not name the specific dates when alleged sexual activity had taken place.

Barber, of Wendover, Buckinhamshire, denied three counts of causing or inciting a child aged under 16 years to engage in a sexual act.

Jurors took 10 hours and 39 minutes to reach their verdicts today.

Barber was convicted in September of sending the boy topless pictures of herself on Snapchat between September and October 2018, but she was acquitted of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity while in a position of trust.

Prosecutor Richard Milne told the jury: "They engaged in sexual intercourse at the time he was 15 years of age and she was a teacher and he was a pupil at the school.

"It makes not a jot of difference that he was a he - the law applies equally to men and women.

"In law he could not give consent to have sexual intercourse."
