Married doctor who groped midwife at Edinburgh Christmas party is banned for six months

A doctor who ran his hand up and down the inner thigh of a hospital midwife at a works Christmas party has been banned from treating patients for six months.

Married father-of-two Dr Michael Ross, 44, was suspended by a disciplinary panel, who condemned him for his “lack of humility” over his behaviour.

The shocked woman, who sat at the same table as the doctor in the Hanover Tap pub in Edinburgh in December 2016, fled the party after calling her husband to collect her.

The midwife, named only as Miss A, later complained to a professor at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Medical Education, where Ross is a senior clinical lecturer.

She claimed she was “felt up by a disgusting guy”. She also claimed Ross groped her leg three months later and twice stroked her back on other occasions.

Ross, a part-time GP at the Primrose Lane medical centre in Rosyth, Fife, denied any wrongdoing. At the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in Manchester yesterday, he faced being struck off after being found guilty of sexually motivated misconduct.

But he will keep his job after he insisted it was an “isolated interaction”.
