Married couple open gaming arcade in Eastwood after planning battle

A new adult gaming arcade has opened in Eastwood after the couple behind the centre had to appeal to planning chiefs to get the green light.

Kerching Amusements, in Nottingham Road, features more than 30 fruit machines, while there is also five sit down machines with jackpots of up to £500 up for grabs.

Nottinghamshire Live revealed last year the plans for the arcade had been turned down after the council said the town needed more shops.

But, after an appeal, the plans were given the green light by the authority.

"The applicants submitted an appeal following the council’s planning committee refusing planning permission," said a Broxtowe Borough Council spokeswoman.

"The council has now received the appeal decision from the planning inspectorate and the appeal has been allowed and, therefore, planning permission has been granted for the change of use to an adult gaming centre."

Having opened around a week ago, co-owner Michelle Jones, 36, of Alvaston, Derby, said: "We have had a steady trickle of people in. It's about getting it out there that it's open and we have got a range of machines - come in and play them.

"We have had a lot of positive feedback from people who have been in.

"There a mixture of £5 jackpots to up to £500, it's a good mix of different machines for people to play from old, retro stuff up to more modern touchscreen machines. It has something to attract everyone."

The arcade is open between 9am and 7pm from Monday and Thursday, 9am to 9pm on Friday and Saturday and 9am to 6pm on Sunday.

Mrs Jones and her husband, Terry, 40, ran a family arcade in Worksop, which closed last year after opening in July 2017.

They looked to find a suitable location to open their new business.

Mrs Jones said there was no other gaming arcade in Eastwood but added there were a few betting shops in the town.

The nearest competitor, she said, was in Ilkeston. The arcade could potentially create new part-jobs in the future, Mrs Jones added.
