Married at First Sight UK: We applied for the show to see what it's like

Channel 4 are looking for applicants over the age of 18 to partake in the following series of Married at First Sight UK - a show which has taken the nation by storm.

The popular reality TV show - which is currently in its sixth season - is a social experiment where single people are coupled up by matchmaking experts and first meet at the altar.

It's a big TV talking point at the moment because there have been some memorable moments from the current series, from Nikita who got thrown off the show to a couple who dropped the 'L' bomb after just a few days, it has all been kicking off.

Oh, and there was the bride who cheated on her new husband with another newly-wed.

Sound like something you could be up for? Well don't you worry - we've taken the plunge and filled out an application for the series so that you can find out all the work that goes into potentially getting married to someone you've never met.

Here's how our reporter Dayna got on...

Now that I'm apparently ready for marriage (which came as news to me) and more importantly ready to allow the whole world to watch me get married to someone I've never met and witness the no doubt chaos that follows, it's over to shortaudition.com/mafsuk2 to fill out my application for Married at First Sight UK.

The first thing that I'm warned about before continuing is that Married at First Sight UK will only be taking applicants who are over 18 and feel ready for marriage.

I am definitely over 18 (with the boxes of grey-erasing hair dye to prove it) and this application is currently my most likely avenue towards getting a husband right now. Consider me ready for marriage.

Time for terms of use - the series will be filmed in Spring 2022 (I'm sure I can get more attractive by then) and I agree not to institute any legal proceedings against CPL Productions.

Now to fill out my profile, alongside the usual business of name, age etc the production company also asks you: your height, job, Facebook page (probably time to delete all those pictures from ten years ago at Freshers), a recent photo and whether you've ever been on TV before.

Alongside filling in how long you've been single for, you're then asked to describe your perfect first date - I'm not sure what they'll make of my answer of 'getting some peace and quiet' but let's go.

The next section is questions, with the first one being 'have you got a criminal record?'

You're then asked 'why now is the right time for you to get married to a complete stranger?' - does Glasgow's rent prices and needing a flatmate to split the cost count?

Next up, 'please tell us what your idea of this process and experiment looks like and what you hope to achieve at the end of it' - personally I'd hope that by the end of it I've been married at first sight - but that's just a guess.

Finally, the application asks whether you're able to be available for a full 9/10 weeks of filming while you begin life with your new partner.

The final section really is for the brave who are ready for their first TV appearance - a video submission.

In the video, applicants need to tell producers why you want to marry a stranger and applied for Married At First Sight UK and why now.

Sitting in my official work from home uniform (pajamas and a dressing gown that has seen better days) I've decided to skip this element.

Unfortunately one of the terms and conditions is to confirm that you won't talk about your application, so it'd be appear I've already broken the first rule of Fight Club and my application will be null and void. Sadly I've not submitted it. I'm sure my potential future husband via the show will be devastated.

If you're far braver than me and fancy applying for yourself, visit shortaudition.com/mafsuk2.
