Married at First Sight UK to have 'series first' in upcoming season

Married At First Sight UK is set to have a show first in the upcoming UK series.

The popular E4 programme returns to our screens next week and promises to be “bigger and more dramatic” than the last series. Viewers will watch a bunch of singles, including Liverpool’s own Thomas Hartley, embark on the journey of a lifetime in a bid to find true love.

Kicking off the 30 instalments is a stag night for the men and hens night for the ladies. Along the way, the couples will place their trust in relationship experts Paul C Brunson, Charlene Douglas and Mel Schilling, who recently revealed the show would include two same-sex couples this time round.

Praising the increase in queer representation, she told Digital Spy : “We are representing. We have a gay couple and a lesbian couple this year, and that's never been done before in the history of MAFS. I think that is on the back of the success of Dan and Matt last year. Not only were they a great couple, and they were successful, and they're still together, but they did such a good job of representing a healthy, normal, gay relationship."

The show, which is dominated largely by opposite-sex couples, unveiled its cast earlier this month and it includes Thomas, from Litherland. Ahead of the show filming, the 31-year-old mental health care assistant, said: "I’m really concerned they might not like me. That’s okay, but I don’t want to waste their time or my own time."

Thomas is bursting with energy, sarcasm, and bawdy humour and, for as long as he can remember, he’s always loved being the centre of attention. He’s extremely sociable, unapologetically loud, and not one to back down in an argument. Thomas’ worst nightmare would be for someone to describe him as “nice”. When he enters a room, Thomas is used to having all eyes on him. He’s looking for a partner to help balance him out.

He is one of the eight brides and eight grooms who will take part in this year's series of Married At First Sight on E4.
