Married at First Sight UK’s Matt hits back at TV reputation as he says he's always respected women

Married at First Sight UK's Matt Murray did not have a smooth ride in the 2022 series of the show. In very dramatic scenes Matt was originally married to Gemma, however he cheated on her with fellow bride Whitney and the new couple re-entered the process.

Ultimately Matt and Whitney were unable to make their marriage work and Matt was not well-liked by viewers for his treatment of Gemma. Matt has now hit back at his TV reputation as he told fans he has "always respected women". You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.

Posting a photo of him and mum for Mother's Day, both smiling at the camera, Matt said: "F**k the posey photo today...I love you mum. I love how you raised me under every circumstance. You just made it work. The lessons we learn become who we are and despite what the tele told you...I have always respected women because I was raised by one."

Matt went on to post his own quote, which said: "STRONG ENOUGH TO PROTECT YET WEAK ENOUGH TO RESPECT". Recently Matt announced his split from fellow Married at First Sight UK star Marilyse. Although they took part in different series of the show, with Marilyse featuring on the show in 2021, the pair connected and became a couple after Matt's split from Whitney.

Matt shared a video message on his Instagram Stories and gave a bit of insight into the breakup. He said: "A lot of you over the past couple of weeks have asked questions about me and Marilyse being together or not and have we split up, are we still together."

He added: "As a lot of you have probably just seen on Marilyse's story no we are not together anymore. We decided to leave it there. We are maybe just a little too different. But again I just wish Marilyse all the best in the future. It just is what it is."
