Married At First Sight teases disaster for same-sex couple over massive age gap

Married At First Sight’s first ever same-sex couple are set to tie the knot in tomorrow’s episode - and there’s already trouble ahead for them.

Northern Ireland native Daniel, 27, and charity worker Matt, 39, are making history on the UK version of the show by becoming the first gay couple to participate.

The weight of the moment isn’t lost on either of them, with Daniel calling it “nerve wracking” while Matt prays it’s the “first day of the rest of their life”.

However, the second they meet at the altar, they immediately spot a problem between them - their hefty age gap.

With Daniel younger than Matt by a sizeable 12 years, it’s something that both of the grooms can’t help but immediately notice as they get ready to say ‘I Do’.

Will they actually make it past the first ceremony?

If they go through with the wedding, Matt and Daniel have a rocky road ahead of them as they handle the crash course in married life.

They’ll be whisked off on a honeymoon before living together alongside the seven other couples that are matched by our love experts.

Ahead of the wedding day, both said they were excited to be part of the experiment, with Daniel saying: “It’s amazing to be one half of the first gay couple. Gay marriage has only been legalised very recently in Northern Ireland which is absolutely shocking.

“Now that I can share my relationship with the world, I find that so important.”

He added that he was ‘all about experiencing life’ and was looking for things that give him an adrenaline rush.

Each week throughout the experiment, they’ll be asked whether or not they want to continue, with the finale being a commitment ceremony to reaffirm their vows.

On Monday’s episode, the first two couples got married, and while one seemed to be an immediate love connection, another looked ready to throw in the towel.

Nikita was left far from impressed with her new husband Ant and refused to even kiss him for the sake of a wedding photo.

Her high and particular standards hadn’t gone unnoticed by her family, who tried to encourage her to give cool-headed Ant a chance.

Meanwhile, Robert was left blown away by Megan from the second he saw her - but she found the experience slightly terrifying, admitting that their strong connection so quickly left her feeling like she was in ‘someone else’s fairy tale’.

Throughout the rest of the week, more married couples will be made, before the fun really starts as they settle in to married life.

Will they all be able to survive?

Married At First Sight airs Sundays to Thursdays at 9pm on E4.
