Prepare to get to know another cohort of couples

Thanks to red wine-fuelled dinner parties, intense commitment ceremonies and dramatic showdowns, the Aussie edition of this high-stakes reality show is perfect lockdown viewing.
With the sixth season (which aired in Australia in 2019) finally coming to an end on March 1 after nearly 40 episodes, E4 has now confirmed that series seven will air in the UK this summer. Phew.
Based on a Danish format that first aired in 2013, Married at First Sight pairs up single contestants using a compatibility test.
Participants then meet their husband or wife for the very first time at the altar and spend the coming weeks getting to know them. Intense doesn’t cover it.
In the Australian version of the show, the couples continue to hang out with the other participants throughout the social experiment, which inevitably leads to fall outs and, in some cases, partner swapping.
Unsurprisingly, the programme’s success rate is pretty low, with just a handful of couples still together - though many participants have gone on to carve out lucrative careers as Instagram influencers.
Series six has been a huge hit for E4, currently drawing a consolidated average audience of 1.3 million viewers, and has also been the most popular title on streaming platform All4 since it launched back in January.
The UK edition of Married at First Sight is also set to air on E4 in 2021, with the broadcaster promising that the show will get an Aussie-inspired makeover. Casting is currently in process.
