Married At First Sight Australia's second commitment ceremony brings shocking twist in extended episode

MAFS Australia delighted fans with a juicy extended episode on Monday night.

It was the second commitment ceremony of the season, and we could barely keep up with the drama. There were accusations flying of contestants 'getting phone numbers', and groom Shannon left his co-stars and viewers shocked yet again with his "brutal honesty". It was certainly an episode to remember.

We reported previously how fans of the show are outraged at some of the contestants picked to take part in the reality dating programme, saying they have "emotionally abusive" tendencies.

And it seems the panel of experts may have listened to the concerns, as John Aiken announced: "No one is getting away from this commitment ceremony without taking accountability."

Usually, couples must stay in the process even if one half wants to leave. But experts decided to change the rules and if one person wanted to leave then that couple was out.

Fans had previously been left feeling sorry for bride Caitlin, who tied the knot with Shannon at the alter. He has consistently been making "brutally honest" remarks about her appearance and even confessed to still being in love with his ex.

Viewers were shocked on tonight's instalment of the show when he declared he wanted to stay in the experiment.

"I want to stay at least for another week and if nothing else have some form of friendship, I am really sorry for everything I put Caitlin through," Shannon said on the couch as he attempted to defend himself.

But a visibly emotional Caitlin was hailed for her bravery as she continued to smile through the pain with tears in her eyes as she demanded she "deserves better," and confirmed she would like to leave when asked by John. That meant both Caitlin and Shannon were out.

In another tearful moment, groom Josh broke down in tears over his wife Melissa consistently mocking him over his manhood.

Melissa said she wanted to stay but visibly broken Josh wanted to leave, and the other grooms rallied around him as he walked off-set, as both Josh and Melissa left the show.

Married At First Sight Australia airs Monday - Thursday on E4 at 7:30pm.
