Marriage mecca Gretna sees boom in festive weddings

Marriage mecca the Gretna parish is seeing a boom in festive weddings.

From Christmas Day to January 4, the registration office and other venues in Gretna Green, Gretna and Kirkpatrick Fleming will have seen 120 couples from across the UK getting married.

Another seven ceremonies will be held in Dumfries, Moffat, Lockerbie, Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbright and Gatehouse of Fleet.

The next popular date for weddings at Gretna Green looks set to be St Valentine’s Day on February 14.

However, there are a number of dates in 2022 which may also prove popular with couples looking to have a unique pattern of numbers appear on a wedding invitation – they include February 12 (12022021), Feb 20 (200222), Feb 22 (22022022), and November 22 (221122).
