Marquise Goodwin brings a ‘uniqueness’ to Seahawks receiving corps

The Seattle Seahawks signed wide receiver Marquise Goodwin on Monday, instantly adding a veteran presence and speed to their wide receiving corps. Goodwin, 31, has plenty of gas left in the tank.

“I’m excited, anytime somebody brings something unique, which this guy is historically really, really fast,” coach Pete Carroll said. “We played against him and we have respect for him from all of that. We really thought, seriously, about drafting him way back then, so we are happy to get it done.”

In college, Goodwin was an All-American track star at the University of Texas, where he was a two-time NCAA long jump champion, even qualifying for the 2012 Olympic team in that event. Plus, he worked with Seahawks receivers coach Sanjay Lal during their time together in Buffalo.

“I’m hoping it will rub off on other guys as he goes through it,” Carroll said of Goodwin’s experiences. “I’m not asking him to be a mentor to anybody, but Sanjay will use him accordingly to demonstrate stuff and do things that he has coached over the years, that Marquise can do.”
