Eric DeCosta expects Marquise Brown to be ready for training camp after foot surgery

The Baltimore Ravens got their guy. After trading back with the Philadelphia Eagles to move from No. 22 to No. 25, the Ravens selected Oklahoma wide receiver Marquise Brown in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft.

Though Brown was the first wide receiver off the board this year, he has some red flags. The top one has been a foot injury that required surgery this offseason to fix and caused Brown to miss the 2019 NFL scouting combine and Oklahoma’s pro day.

Immediately after the selection of Brown, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta held a quick press conference. DeCosta said Baltimore had a good handle on Brown’s Lisfranc injury and expects him to be ready by training camp.

The Ravens have recent experience with Lisfranc injuries. Defensive end Brent Urban and cornerback Jimmy Smith have dealt with the injury in previous years.

Baltimore will have to hope their medical assessment is correct. After losing John Brown in free agency and cutting Michael Crabtree, the depth chart at wide receiver was thin for the Ravens. Brown will be expected to contribute immediately, which means they’ll need him healthy. And considering one of the knocks against him has been his lack of a route tree, the offseason will be a great chance for Brown to get started on his development.
