Marquise Brown switching from No. 15

After easing jersey number restrictions across the NFL, plenty began to speculate on who could change into something new. For the Baltimore Ravens, they now have two players who will be donning new numbers in 2021 and beyond.

It was announced that Baltimore linebacker Patrick Queen would be switching from No. 48 to No. 6, the first instance of a Ravens player changing jersey numbers. Now, wide receiver Marquise Brown is following suite, changing his jersey number from No. 15 to No. 5.

Brown wore No. 5 in college at the University of Oklahoma, but his jersey switch has caused quite a bit of controversy with Baltimore fans. The former Sooner is the first Raven to wear No. 5 ever since former Baltimore quarterback and Super Bowl XLVII MVP Joe Flacco. The Ravens haven’t officially retired any jersey numbers, but many have debated whether Brown taking No. 5 was the right thing to do, but at the end of the day, it’s just a jersey number.

Flacco did great things in a Baltimore while wearing a Ravens jersey. The fact that Brown is now wearing his former number in Baltimore won’t take away from that. Flacco will always be the player who had a magical 2012-2013 playoff run that helped the organization secure their second Super Bowl title. However, now it’s Brown’s turn to do great things in a No. 5 jersey for Baltimore.
