Marlon Humphrey says he’ll wear No. 44 jersey in 2019

With the addition of safety Earl Thomas in free agency, the Baltimore Ravens have a bit of a fight for the No. 29 jersey. Both Thomas and cornerback Marlon Humphrey have typically worn that number.

When Baltimore signed Thomas, he told reporters he and Humphrey had come to an agreement. Thomas noted Humphrey gave him the jersey number and in exchange, he might donate some money to an organization Humphrey’s mother runs.

That left Humphrey without a jersey number – until now. On Tuesday, Humphrey put up an image of himself wearing the No. 44 jersey on Twitter with the word “official.”

Humphrey also wore the No. 26 at Alabama, but cornerback Maurice Canady has that number. Bobby Humphrey — Marlon’s father — played running back for the Denver Broncos and finished his career with the Miami Dolphins, wearing the No. 44 jersey. So Humphrey’s switch in number has some family relevance.

Six other players have worn the No. 44 jersey in Ravens history. However, only a few of them are names most fans would know. Fullbacks Kyle Juszczyk and Vonta Leach were the most productive Baltimore players to don that number.
