Marlins reportedly deal Cameron Maybin to Mariners ahead of trade deadline

Just hours after making their first move ahead of Tuesday's MLB trade deadline, the Marlins have struck another deal.

Miami is trading outfielder Cameron Maybin to the Seattle Mariners for minor league shortstop Bryson Brigman and international bonus money, according to multiple reports. Playing for High-A Modesto, the 23-year-old is hitting .304 with 13 doubles, seven triples and 38 RBIs in 98 games this season.

Seattle's third-round pick in 2016, Brigman is rated as the team's 19th best prospect, by MLB.com. He previously played college baseball at the University of San Diego.

The Marlins traded reliever Brad Ziegler to Arizona for Double-A reliever Tommy Eveld just hours earlier.

A 12-year MLB veteran, Maybin signed a one-year contract worth $3.25 million with Miami prior to the season. The 31-year-old is hitting .251 with three home runs, 20 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 251 at bats this year. Maybin has been hot over his past 15 games, slashing .316/.458/.500 for the Marlins. On Tuesday night, Maybin went 1 for 2 with a double in the team's loss against Atlanta.

Maybin joins a Mariners team that's right in the thick of the playoff hunt. Seattle currently holds a wild-card spot and is just three games back of the Houston Astros in the AL West race.

During his MLB career, the outfielder has played for the Padres, Tigers, Angels, Braves and Astros. He spent three seasons with the Marlins from 2008-10 after being sent from Detroit as one of the centerpieces of the Miguel Cabrera trade. During his first stint with Miami, he slashed .255/.328/.375.

For his career, Maybin has totaled 859 hits, 59 home runs, 307 RBIs and 172 stolen bases.
