Marlins' Martin Prado to miss at least a month with hamstring injury

Marlins manager Don Mattingly said the team would be without veteran third baseman Martin Prado for at least a month after a left hamstring strain suffered during Friday night's loss to Washington.

"We know at least 30 days, plus getting ready," Mattingly said before Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Nationals. "We're a ways out. Timetables are really not part of the equation right now. We know it's a hamstring strain. If it's not healing or not feeling better, then we would get some testing."

Prado, 34, has a history of leg injuries and said that an ultrasound revealed "a significant gap in between the fibers and the muscles." The team placed Prado on the 10-day disabled list on Saturday and recalled shortstop JT Riddle.

In Prado's absence, Miguel Rojas will be the primary third baseman, though Brian Anderson could play there as well.

Rojas made a diving highlight-reel catch on Saturday afternoon and snared a line drive that started a double play on Sunday afternoon.

"We knew that we were comfortable being able to move him that we're going to get great defense at third," Mattingly said. "If we move him to second or to first, we get the same thing. There was never any worry about the defense."
