ARLINGTON, Texas _ The Miami Marlins placed first baseman Justin Bour and shortstop JT Riddle on the disabled list Tuesday.
Utility infielder Mike Aviles and catcher/first baseman Tomas Telis were called up from Triple-A New Orleans to fill those roster spots and some of the playing time.
Bour suffered a right oblique strain on a swing in the first inning Monday. This is his second trip to the DL this season and third in about 13 months, after being sidelined by a left ankle bruise in June and a right ankle sprain last summer.
"Can't really even describe the frustration level, really," Bour said Monday night.
Riddle, on the DL with left biceps tendinitis, has had shoulder trouble for weeks, but it came to a head after he landed on the shoulder on a dive last week and it didn't get better with rest and treatment.
It's not clear how long Bour or Riddle will be out. Expect Tyler Moore to see the bulk of the time at first.
Avoiding the disabled list, at least for now, is infielder Miguel Rojas, who has been filling in for Riddle for going on a week but who also has a tender left shoulder. He was in clear pain Monday but remained in the game. The Marlins were without another healthy infielder.
Still, the Marlins are again missing three-quarters of their starting infield. Martin Prado (right knee sprain) is also out, with no known timetable for a return. Second baseman Dee Gordon is the lone remaining first-stringer.
