MIAMI _ Three weeks ago, little went right for Dan Straily when he toed the rubber against the Braves.
The Marlins starter surrendered 11 hits and eight runs _ five earned _ in just 32/3 innings in Atlanta. On Friday night, Straily was a new man.
Rocking the nickname 'Thunder' on the back of his special Players Weekend jersey, Straily dropped the hammer on the Braves. The 6-foot-2 righty pitched six shutout innings to help the Marlins edge Atlanta, 1-0.
Straily scattered three hits and one walk, while striking out four, to pick up his first victory since July 20.
After tensions between the teams flared the night prior, Friday was a relatively subdued affair. The Marlins didn't record a hit in the first three innings, but finally broke through in the fourth. Following a Brian Anderson double to center, Derek Dietrich delivered a two-out RBI single off Mike Foltynewicz to give Miami a 1-0 lead. With the base knock, Dietrich extended his hitting streak to six games.
Foltyynewicz was strong on the night _ allowing just two hits and one earned run _ but took the loss as Atlanta's bats went ice cold, stringing together just three hits.
Despite a laborious week, the Marlins bullpen came through on Friday night. Tayron Guerrero and Drew Steckenrider pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings, respectively, to hold the lead. In the ninth, Miami brought in Adam Conley to close out the game. The left-hander tossed a perfect inning to pick up his second save of the season.
