MIAMI _ Dee Gordon homered, and it caused him to cry.
Tears were flowing Monday as the crestfallen Marlins returned to the field for the first time since the death of pitcher Jose Fernandez, and Gordon broke into sobs upon returning to the dugout after homering into the upper deck.
It was Gordon's first home run all season.
The Marlins honored Fernandez during pregame ceremonies.
Gordon brought Fernandez's cap and glove out for batting practice, setting them on top of the mound.
Marlins players wept during the singing of the National Anthem.
Giancarlo Stanton cried throughout most of the top of the first inning while standing in right field.
