Marley Watkins an Aberdeen target as Bristol City striker faces loan choice

Aberdeen are keen to land Marley Watkins on loan.

Dons manager Derek McInnes wants to sign the striker from Bristol City until January.

Several other English clubs are also interested and McInnes is waiting for the English League One club to make a decision on a possible loan move.

McInnes has no experienced frontmen for tonight’s game at St Johnstone, with Sam Cosgrove, Curtis Main and on-loan Ryan Edmondson are all injured.

McInnes made it his priority after he agreed a deal to sign Ross McCrorie from Rangers earlier this week.

He has a shortlist of strikers and has been a fan of Watkins since his time at Inverness.

A move to land him when he left Caley Thistle failed when Barnsley secured a deal. Watkins has since had spells at Norwich City and Bristol.

McInnes is hoping the appointment of a new boss Dean Holden will give him the green light to bring him back to Pittodrie.

The 29-year-old is keen to get regular games after injury-hit spells in recent seasons.

McInnes also has the option of taking a frontman from Atlanta United's second team.
