Marks & Spencer shoppers love new 60p carrier bag that's 'most stylish yet'

Marks & Spencer shoppers have rushed to snap up a 60p item that hit the stores this week - a new carrier bag design that promises to "transform" the everyday item into a "stylish must-have".

The retailer has teamed up with artist Yinka Ilori, who worked at M&S for eight years at the start of his design career, to launch the new "bold and colourful" carrier bag. The design is inspired by Yinka's memories of working at M&S and "dreaming up designs" on the walk home through his local park - and as well as having a stylish makeover, the bag is more practical than ever too.

Made from 100% recycled plastic, the new design can hold up to 15kg of shopping and is also fully recyclable. A second bag featuring another of Yinka's designs is set to launch later this year as part of an ongoing collaboration between the artist and M&S.

Shoppers have already been impressed by the new bag, touted by Marks & Spencer as the "most stylish and durable carrier bag yet". One person praised on Twitter: "Got one of these today, it’s so bright and cheery, exactly what January needs."

Yinka said: "My artworks are all about evoking joy and optimism through bold colours - even a carrier bag can do that! If something makes you smile, you’ll want to keep using it again and again. Hopefully these colours and patterns will bring a bit of joy to people’s day and inspire them to keep dreaming and keep reusing them."

Sharry Cramond, M&S Food Director of Marketing, added: "I know our customers are absolutely loving the new design already – since the bag launched across our Foodhalls on Monday morning we’ve sold over 10,000. Not only is the new bag more colourful and more joyful – it’s also more durable!

"We all need to reuse more and although 80% of our customers already bring their own bags when shopping with us, we know how easy it is to forget. For those that do, our new Yinka Ilori designed carrier bag offers a more durable, long-term option with a pattern you can’t miss, that everyone will want to be seen with."
