Marks & Spencer is looking for 100 Percy Pig fans to decide whether they should put gelatine back in the sweets

First Piers Morgan was spitting them out live on telly, now Marks & Spencer is looking for 100 Percy Pig fans to decide whether they should put gelatine BACK IN their now vegetarian sweets.

The twittersphere went a bit crazy earlier this week when the retailer announced that they had changed the recipe of its popular Percy Pig sweets to make them suitable for vegetarians alongside their specific, and slightly controversial Veggie Percy line.

In response to the change and disgruntled feedback from customers, M&S said: "After a lot of hard work — and tasting — we’ve finally perfected a 100 per cent vegetarian Percy, something our customers have been asking us for, for a while!

"Percy is as close to the original as possible. We haven’t changed any of the really important things that people love about Percy. The flavour is the same."

Piers wasn't very impressed either (ITV)

The majority of their popular range were already veggie friendly, including the Colin the Caterpillar additions but it was the classic Percy pack that was the last to be changed.

But now they have seem to have succumbed to a bit of pressure from sweet fans as they are looking for 100 people to make up a panel of to decide whether the recipe for Percy Pig sweets should be reverted back to contain their original recipe which contains gelatine.

The chosen mega fans of the sweet treat will form a Percy Pig Panel on May 16 to vote on whether a special edition, classic Percy pack with the gelatine back in should be introduced.

Writing on their Facebook page, M&S said: "You've probably heard that our Percy Pigs are now 100% veggie-friendly.

"We know some people have their tail in a twist over this so we're giving you the chance to have your say.

"Tell us why you're the ultimate Percy super fan and you could be one of the 100 people on our #PercyPigPanel who'll decide if we should introduce a special edition Percy pack with gelatine back in."

And it seems they're on to something as the post has already racked up more than 1,500 comments.

To get involved, shoppers are being asked to pitch for their place on the panel by sharing why they love Percy on the M&S Facebook page or M&S Twitter page .

We wonder if Piers will want to get involved?
