Marks and Spencer to start selling mini avocados

Marks and Spencer are to start stocking mini avocadoes in their food halls.

As the country - and Instagram - goes mad for the for the avocado, especially mashed up on toast, the store will be the first high street store to sell the mini version of the fruit investing in the fruit.

A whole bag of M&S baby avocados

The baby fruit, which are half the size of a regular avocado, are grown in an avocado orchard in Malaga, Spain and were once rejected for potential sale for being too small. They will be sold in packs of five for £2.

The avocado has had a massive rise in popularity in the last year, having become one of the most photographed food stuffs on Instagram, as well as being boosted by Nigella Lawson in the questionable ‘recipe’ for avocado on toast which was featured on her cookery show.

The launch of the mini avocadoes could help bolster sales at M&S, after last week they announced disappointing results for the Christmas period. In response, the CEO Marc Bolland is planning to retire in April and will be replaced by Steve Rowe, who is currently the executive director of general merchandise at the store.
