Taking to Instagram, the popular high street retailer shared a photo of digital creator Rachel Clifton sporting a white pure cotton muslin long "night dress".
Captioning the image, M&S said: "Ready for the heatwave". You can buy the dress from Marks and Spencer's website here.
The photo racked up more than 1,900 likes on the hit social media platform.
Shoppers were divided over the look after spotting the words "night dress" in the product description on Marks and Spencer's website.
They took to the comments section to share their thoughts.
Judy posted a laughing face emoji and said: "Looked online it described as a nightdress."
Emma said: "The link says this is a nightdress?!! Is that right? Saw a very similar dress on the website but was £49.50 not £25!!! If so I’ll go for the nightie."
