Marks and Spencer say all COVID rules being followed after claims that two EK staff test positive for virus

Retail giant Marks and Spencer say all guidelines are being followed in their Kingsgate store after it was claimed two staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.

A concerned worker contacted the East Kilbride News saying the two members of staff went to work on Wednesday before testing positive and then going into self-isolation.

However, M&S wouldn't confirm the positive tests but said that the store is following all proper procedure in line with Scottish Government regulations.

But the worker told us: "Both staff members were customer facing. Supposedly a deep clean happened on Wednesday, however, no one saw this happen. We are all absolutely worried as this isn’t just something to be ignored. It’s got deadly consequences.

"The only other staff isolating is one person who works in a completely different section. And those who worked in close contact  for a lot longer than 15 minutes are not even being told to isolate.

"Staff weren't being informed of the cases but as this was challenged we were sent a message on Microsoft teams that was a generic message that someone had coronavirus. The message wasn’t even adjusted for the specific store situation."

NHS Lanarkshire say their public health team are unaware of any cases.

An M&S spokesperson said: “The health and wellbeing of our colleagues and customers always come first and we have enhanced cleaning procedures and measures in place across all M&S stores to help ensure social distancing.

"In addition, any M&S colleague that needs to self-isolate in line with NHS Test and Protect is supported to do so on full pay. We are happy that the Kingsgate M&S store is following all proper procedures and is fully in line with Scottish Government regulations.”
