Marks and Spencer has introduced a weekly sensory shopping hour in all Irish stores

Marks and Spencer has introduced a sensory shopping hour in all Irish stores to allow customers with sensory issues to shop in a calm and quiet environment.

The service takes place each Sunday morning from 10-11am, during which time lights are dimmed, there's quiet tills and assistance dogs are welcome in all M&S stores.

Shelves will not be re-filled during the dedicated sensory shopping hour, when staff are made fully aware of customers' extra needs.

Parents to hold Dail protest to demand more school places for autistic children

The high end retailers have brought in the service in a bid to make shopping easier for children and adults with Autism who may experience sensory sensitivity.

This means they can be overwhelmed and experience sensory overload in certain situations, brought on by sounds, sights and smells amongst other things.
