Marko Grujic breaks silence on Liverpool exit after completing FC Porto transfer

Marko Grujic has revealed that he did everything that he could do to ensure that he re-joined FC Porto from Liverpool this summer.

As reported by the ECHO on Tuesday morning, the Reds and the Primeira Liga club have agreed a deal worth £10.5m for the Serbia international to return to Portugal.

Grujic arrived in Portugal late on Monday evening, having been given permission to leave the Reds' pre-season training camp in Austria to finalise his Anfield exit.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at the Estadio do Dragao and helped the club reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The 25-year-old was the first signing of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool tenure and Porto have been firmly leading the race for his signature on a full-time basis this summer.

“I’m really happy,“ Grujic told Porto’s official site after joining the club. “I did everything I could to return to FC Porto and I am very happy that this day has arrived.

“The clubs reached an agreement and returning to FC Porto was the most important thing for me, as I felt very good here last season.”

Grujic is one of two expected Liverpool departures over the next 24 hours after a deal was agreed with Union Berlin for Taiwo Awoniyi.

The ECHO understands that Awoniyi is set to complete a £6.5m move to the German side with a medical for the forward scheduled to take place later today.

The ECHO also understands that the Reds have included a 10 per cent sell-on clause in both deals.
