Marko Arnautovic completes Shanghai SIPG transfer from West Ham for £22.4million

Marko Arnautovic has left West Ham to join Shanghai SIPG in a £22.4million move - six months after failing to secure a dream switch to the Chinese Super League.

The Austrian was keen to leave the London Stadium this summer and has now had his move confirmed, signing a lucrative deal to move to China.

Arnautovic, 30, made no secret of his desire to quit  West Ham in January before a sensational U-turn saw him sign a new deal.

But his form dipped towards the end of the season as his relationship with the Hammers' faithful soured.

Mirror Football revealed how West Ham were digging their heels in over his valuation because Arnautovic’s previous club, Stoke, are due 20 per cent of the profit on any deal for a player they sold in 2017 for £24m.

In January, the 30-year-old was blocked from joining Guangzhou Evergrande, who bid £30m for him and offered the frontman about £200,000 a week in wages.

Arnautovic went on to sign a contract extension worth about £130,000 a week, but he struggled to regain his form on a consistent basis.

He was left out of the team for four matches and scored just three times in the rest of the season, having struck seven before that in the league, as Manuel Pellegrini's side finished 10th — five points off a Europa League place.

The forward was expected back to start pre-season work next week following international duty in the European Championship qualifiers last month.

However, his move to China has now been confirmed and he will link up with his new squad which includes former Chelsea star Oscar and Hulk, formerly of Porto and Zenit Saint Petersburg.
