Markle Markle's pal say Duchess 'knows what's going on' with family ahead of Coronation

A celebrity friend of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has claimed the pair are in a "really good place" as the Duke of Sussex prepares to fly to the UK for his father's Coronation.

Buckingham Palace confirmed earlier this month that Prince Harry will be at Westminster Abbey to see King Charles crowned at his Coronation, although his wife Meghan will remain at home in the US with their two children Archie and Lilibet.

Ahead of the Coronation on May 6, celebrity friend Gayle King has claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have done what is best for them.

Speaking to US Weekly, the host of CBS Mornings said: "I think they make the decision that's best for them. But I think — as [far as] his dad [Charles] — I'm glad he's going."

The 68-year-old said that Harry and Meghan are in "a really good place".

She added: "Clearly they know what’s going on in their family life. They know what’s going on over there."

Prince Harry and Meghan, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and now live in California, were spotted laughing and cuddling while watching the LA Lakers basketball game this week and were even shown on the stadium's jumbotron big screen.

"You've seen the two of them together and I know what they have is really true-blue. And it's good to see the happiness that they give each other," Gayle said.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's relationship with the royal family has been strained in recent years, with the issues laid bare in their controversial Netflix documentary and Harry's autobiography Spare.

After months of speculation, it was confirmed on April 12 that Harry will attend the Coronation in London, although Meghan will stay in the US with Archie and Lilibet. The Coronation falls on the same day as Archie's fourth birthday.

The Palace said in a statement: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.

"The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet."

It is said Archie's birthday has played a factor in the decision for Meghan to remain at home with her children - and it is expected Harry will make a whistle stop trip to the UK for the big event.

Harry's attendance will see him appear in a public setting with Charles, Camilla, William, Kate and the rest of his family for the first time since he lambasted the royals in his memoirs.

It will also be the first time he has been pictured with the Windsors since the funeral of his grandmother the late Queen.
