Marketing Edinburgh is the organisation dedicated to promoting Edinburgh to the world, promoting and championing our capital city locally, nationally and internationally.
In their 2018/2019 annual review , the firm confirmed that there is "uncertainty ahead", with chairman Gordon Robertson writing:
"We find ourselves having to transform or cease to exist, following a 34% cut in Council funding and an additional cut to income that will reduce Council funding to zero by April 2020."
Edinburgh City Councillors cut £300,000 from this year’s £890,000 budget and expect it to become self-supporting by next year.
In February of this year, Marketing Edinburgh's Chief Executive John Donnelly quit in the wake of the council budget cuts announcements.
The firm, which returns £99 to the local economy for every £1 they spend, may be better known to you as the team behind This is Edinburgh .
Commenting on the necessity for such an organisation, Robertson writes in the report: "We passionately believe that there is a role for an organisation that manages tourism in Edinburgh and manages the city’s brand and reputation in this area.
"An organisation that takes the views of all, from residents to the tourism businesses, from Councillors to visitors and all those in between."
The company admits that there is "months of hard work ahead" but that "we're excited by the future."
