As a freelance translator and interpreter, my industry competition is fierce. Customers expect high quality and translation is seen as a commodity these days. So, to stand out, you need to be visible. I’ve achieved that for Rainy London through a strong social media and PR presence.
I post regularly on the Rainy London Facebook page, Twitter account and other platforms. This includes a mix of informative and fun content, competitions, blogs and photo sharing. This has helped me to increase customer loyalty and to improve my search engine ranking. I decided I should set out clear goals that were attainable and measurable, such as meeting a new prospective customer every month or contacting a new client every week. Going to events has helped me get to know other professionals who may be interested in translation services - most of the time I’m the only translator they have ever met.
My marketing is mainly done online and by going to events where I either join as a networking partner or go to give a talk. My speciality, other than translation, is branding. Thanks to my new blog and website, I’ve managed to boost this activity and get new, regular clients. The most exciting thing so far has been going to an event and talking to someone who has already heard of my brand and services.
