We started out on a shoestring budget, trying to compete in one of the most competitive industries online. Our most common competitors were banks and price comparison sites with million pound marketing budgets.
Our strategy was to use in-depth market research with information obtained from Google, to help us look for the types of searches people make when they’re looking for answers to specific questions.
We also try to find the areas where people are repeatedly struggling but not finding the specialist help that they need. If they then go on to make an enquiry, we make sure we’re putting them in touch with somebody that’s an ideal fit.
Our website has turned into a huge information resource that is added to daily. These large companies with huge marketing budgets just seem to be interested in spending all their money competing for the customers that fit into the ‘straightforward’ box so that they can process them as quickly as possible - often overlooking those that need real advice.
A lot of companies don’t want to give much information away on their websites as they want an enquiry, but we find that the more we give for free to our visitors, the more they trust us and want to use us.
We also started trying to build up relationships with journalists and other media professionals to try to offer them unique insight and content on various topics. This has really helped us grow at an even faster rate than before.
