Marketing and PR 2015-16 competition entry: Pop-ettes

Brian Smith is the director of Henfield-based Pop-ettes explains why the business should win the marketing and PR category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition.

I started using a media enquiry service for my animal origami activity sets, where you can both ask for and receive media requests. Getting my products to mummy bloggers with a giveaway or competition and then getting nice product reviews improved sales. It also pulled in interesting requests for media news and articles.

Also it resulted in great PR events, including one at Chessington World of Adventures where I was folding designs with a Strictly Come Dancing professional and a presenter from ITV’s This Morning. I also donated to the British Soap Awards goody bags. I created new products and limited edition packs as a result of these events.

All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
