Katie Carr is the founder of St Albans-based Tommy & Lottie explains why the business should win the marketing and PR category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition.
I wanted to visibly show our customers how our clothing is made and why it is sustainable and ethical, so I came up with the idea of creating an animation for our website that we could also use on other social media platforms.
I also wanted to give students an opportunity to gain some work experience to use in their portfolios. So I approached Oaklands College in St Albans and they embraced the project. Two students were selected, and I was immediately impressed by their ideas and the standard of their work.
Not only do I have two great animations for my business, but this project has helped our SEO ranking and we’ve been featured in the local press and various magazines. I was chosen as one of the top 100 mumpreneurs in the UK in a 2015 competition.
In 2015 we have been nominated as finalists for the Hertfordshire Digital Awards in two categories. These are for best online business and best use of video for business. We’ve also been nominated as the best new business in the St Albans Chamber Community Business Awards 2015 – great PR for us!
I am passionate about giving other people work experience, creating opportunities allowing them to grow.
All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
