Kate Edmunds, director of Bristol-based Eggnogg, explains why the business should win the marketing and PR category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition.
Even the smallest of businesses can afford professional PR support. Just two days a month of PR can make all the difference – it worked for us.
We recently turned to the expert advice of Gina at Fable Media, a Bristol-based PR company. Her first piece of advice was that to be featured in highbrow magazines you need the right lifestyle styling, and professional photography is essential.
Once these shots were created and combined with Gina’s press releases, the results were astounding. Over the past few months we have been featured in Good Homes, Real Homes, Gurgle, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent and Prima. We’ve also been in mother and baby magazines, and appeared in a slot on ITV News and This Morning.
This has increased our brand awareness and accelerated activity on social media. It has also led to an increase in visits to the website and encouraged more trade clients to open our newsletters, which has increased sales. We can’t emphasise enough how important marketing and PR is in a small business, and it doesn’t need to be expensive.
All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
