Marketing and PR 2015-16 competition entry: Urban Merino

Saskia Lesser, designer and director at Urban Merino, explains why the business should win the marketing and PR category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition.

Urban Merino exhibited its contemporary children’s fashion label, made exclusively from Supersoft Merino Wool, at a trade show in Paris called Playtime.

To raise awareness of our brand, and to catch the interest of wholesale buyers, we commissioned an illustrator to draw a merino sheep, which we used for our invitation. To stand out, and to demonstrate the softness of our wool, we attached a sample of raw wool on top of the sheep drawing.

This gave buyers the opportunity to touch and experience the softness first hand. We received compliments on it from the buyers we met.

All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the top three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
