Market town hotel for sale at £195,000

A 200-year-old market town hotel is for sale at the bargain price of £195,000.

The Crown Hotel on the High Street in Langholm, famous for its annual Common Riding celebrations, has been vacated by its tenants and the owners have opted to sell.

It began life as a coaching inn on the then-busy 19th century Edinburgh to Carlisle route and now has 10 guest bedrooms, a bar, coffee shop and function/meeting rooms.

A five-room flat provides accommodation for resident proprietors in the Dumfries-shire venue, which remains open and trading under management.

Langholm, a town of just over 2000 inhabitants on the River Esk, is also famous as the birthplace of poet Hugh MacDiarmid and engineer Thomas Telford.

Alistair Letham, a director at selling agent Colliers International, said: “The Crown Hotel is a firmly established hotel business in the centre of the ever-popular town of Langholm, and with its location on the main A7 it ensures a steady flow of potential custom passing its door.

"Unused property at the rear gives useful development potential and the inclusion of a five-room flat ensures that The Crown is a perfect home and income business for resident owners.”
